I'm guessing they have either recently changed his units assignment or
the area he is serving in has just become a hot bed. First few months
not much action. Lots of caravans, escorting, searching buildings and
residence for insurgents and associated activity, helping the Iraqis
etc... Suddenly his unit is taking hits from IEDs on a regular basis.

Monday the Humvee in front of him got nailed. He lost three friends,
(including the SGT who was in his HumVee when it got it last week)
another is barely hanging on.

He spoke with his mom on Tuesday. She said he was pretty upset. Lots
of carnage, picking up pieces of buddies. It hurts me that I don't know
what to say to him. Thankfully, I never had to serve in a combat zone.
But it leaves me pretty helpless feeling. Don't know what to do for him.
