Well, depends. Is the "commoner" really equipped to make decisions?

Looks to me, like at least half the country are morons, so that puts a
damper on the whole "the people, the people", ya know?

Heck, it's sorta like, if we left abortion rights up to the states, you'd
have some states that just plain wouldn't have 'em. Which is fine
for the whole "move then" idea, 'cept it's pretty weak that you could
live somewhere for so long and get screwed, because more morons
moved in, or whatnot. Eh. That's besides the whole "they're gonna
get them anyways" FACT of the matter. Double "eh".

Indeed, who should decide? Who should be in charge?

Personally, I don't see this as some huge issue-- for the overwhelming
majority, there are bigger fish to fry. Way bigger. I don't like that
they (we?) forced a local prof to bounce out, cuz he said "anyone who
can bomb the pentagon gets my vote"-- that's just freaking silly.

And that was without some law!!! We lose AWESOME teachers (and
lets face it, the best are a little... un-conformist, shall we say?) all the
time, because of The Grind-- I don't see this fixing that at all.
 In fact,
there are so many other areas that really REALLY need work, it's funny
that it's just the entertaining "FREE SPEECH" stuff that gets the lime-
light and debate.

Ultimately, it would be great if the taxpayers could decide. On your

Well, when you've got people using ONE, rather corporate News
organization to get their info, and not seeing the problem therein-

You're in for trouble.

The media is screwed, the web may save us, but mainstream- besides
Indy-media (Democracy Now, Free Speech TV (?whatever), their ain't crap.

Personally, I don't, at this point, know if I trust the majority to do
what's Right or Just. Hows that for a rock and a hard place?

For the People, By the People...
only the people are retards. Ouch! What to do?

Trying to nail down faculty some more isn't on the top of my list, or even
on my list, truthfully.

As it stands now, I haven't the faintest idea who would decide. As

We are surrounded by problems. Some Big, some Small. This, my
friend, isn't much of a problem, from my perspective. And I had a
rough time in The Institution. A small number of Good Teachers,
and a lot of Burnt Outs. I've first hand, watched many of the GTs
become BOs. Really sad, happens with Public School more than
the Uni (hey, there may be a hint herein), but I've seen it a bit at
the Higher level too.

It's not always about the money, ESPECIALLY IN EDUCATION.
(but it's Always about the money, don't get me wrong ;)

is done by associations. I don't have the desire or time to study

Then, my friend, you don't have the ground to suggest some form of
legislation, or, for that matter, much ground to complain on. Or,
perhaps I should point out that "They" fear losing accreditation more
than losing money :P (well, there's a direct relation, but you know).

Or that, if you're TRULY concerned with what teachers teach, you
should probably get familiar with how the System works.

I'm not saying we have a perfect system, by a long shot. I don't
think that a drug charge should make you ineligible for financial
aid. That's part of the Higher Ed. Act, another bit of the puzzle,
perhaps. Great Society, neh? & the New Frontier, woot!

What I'm trying to say, and not really doing very eloquently, is
that if you're "concerned", get involved! Go meet some of the
people who are "really" in charge of stuff. Board members,
council members, etc., etc.. talk with The Unions, etc..

You can effect change, my friend! We don't /need/ the gov fer
this stuff!!! I like councils and peer review and whatnot, personally,
more than a Grid that Needs to be Followed, and whathaveyou.

But I'm a Non-Conformist, I reckon, i nsome regards.

"Communication is what we really need, I reckon."

To quote a great band: It's all fun and games / till someone gets hurt.

Communication is part of what gets us into messes. LOL.

Just can't win, I'm afraid. Or we're winning already, maybe!

Bit of both is what I'd put my money on.
