I get what you're saying, certainly, but if I let Gmail sit without
interacting it updates without reloading.

Updates to the Labels and inbox sections, as well as the Quick
contacts are handled this way (the little green light that pops on
when somebody comes online for instance is not handled vai page
refresh.

Yes, it does seem as though docs and spreadsheets are web2.0, yes.
much more so at any rate.
