I think it goes to two points.

#1. How was the question worded vs. how were the results posted.
For instance. I believe that there was intelligence indicating
something was being planned. (There has probably been some nut case some
where planning something forever, so how valuable is "someone is
planning something") However, I don't believe that means the President
knew the Trade Center was about to be attacked. It could mean that the
Trade Center as well as 2 dozen other locations had been identified as
possible targets. Then again that was established when it was attacked
in the 1990s, so no new intelligence there. I would be more concerned
if our intelligence community was absolutely clueless, than if they had
some of the pieces and hadn't linked them together yet. But knowledge of
a few pieces doesn't make one aware of what is being planned.

I was playing hold'em last night. I had an Ace high Flush. There was a
possible straight showing as well as a low pair showing. I had part of
the picture. So did the guy who HAD the straight. Neither of use saw
the Full House that took us both down. There was a low pair showing
A(we were thinking the other guy had a three of a kind), we shoulda,
coulda etc.. only in hindsight did it all come together. It was pretty
easy for the guy with the boat to tell us we should have seen it coming
etc... and he rubbed it in. But if you always think the other guy has
more, then you loose because there is only one hand that can't loose.
Every other hand has the possibility of being beat. As a FREE society
we play the odds and occasionally we get beat. But in return we have a
pretty decent place to live with a pretty decent standard of living. We
could keep ourselves from being bombed, robbed, hijacked etc... But
how much freedom are you willing to give up to add what percentage to
your safety factor? Prison is a pretty controlled environment. People
are stabbed, beaten, killed etc... all the time. If someone is
determined (suicide bomber), you are not going to stop them. They will
find new tactics to circumvent your precautions. They only have to be
successful once.

#2. As was stated earlier, I think the last couple of administrations
have been caught in what at least appears to be less than truthful
situations more than previous administrations. Or that the focus of
current news addresses these issues more than historically. I wonder
how Kennedy would have held up under todays media's watchful eye? Then
there is the Internet, blogs, websites etc... attacking every little
thing anyone in public life does. So I'm not sure if Bush and his
administration are less honest than previous administrations. But he
sure seems to get caught more often.
