There are ways of getting protein that don't require killing animals. But not using any animal product, which would include eggs or dairy milk doesn't seem natural at all.
I don't think it is an eating disorder as it is probably an informed decision; whereas bulimia and anorexia have a different medical reason behind them. I will say that parents that subject their children to that early in development are not properly informed. The fact that in this latest case the child was delivered at home, and never saw a doctor to me does show a problem.
