Exactly. The first time I saw a default WSS 3.0 (Windows SharePoint
Services 3.0 -- the most recent version of the free SharePoint services you
can use to build core SharePoint functionality) installation, then see
someone create a complete website with collaboration and workflow in about
ten minutes entirely from a browser, well, you didn't have to hit *me* on
the head more than eight or nine times with an iron skillet for me to get
the point.

Then when I saw what *more* could be done using MOSS 2007 (Microsoft Office
SharePoint Server 2007 -- the commercial product that is built using WSS 3.0
and is a superset of its functionality), it took only three more good whacks
with the skillet to see clearly: this was the future, and we were going to
be a part of it.

Since then we've gotten deeply into Workflow Foundation and are doing some
pretty cool stuff with it, too.

Respectfully,

Adam Phillip Churvis

We're in the process of getting into the Sharepoint game. If you're
using 2003, I'd agree with you. But, 2007 is really pretty intense. We
don't even feel like we've scratched the surface of it yet, and we're
already reeling with the possibilities.

Of course, we have a big organization that covers the entire state. I
can't tell you how many times we've had people ask for a site for this
or that committee that happens to be statewide and will probably only
be in existence for 1 year or less. With Sharepoint, a few clicks can
get them their site. And, they can have instant workflow, instant
collaboration tools, instant integration with Outlook/Exchange, etc.

Will we do everything in Sharepoint? No way. But, for an intranet, I
think it's going to fit our needs well. (And, I'm pretty excited about
learning .net. I'm feeling kind of stagnant these days.)
