Damn - I was going to post about this! Stupid work getting in the way. ;^)

Multi-touch-sensing panels have been around for a little while: I think they
basic concept was developed at MIT a few ago. Of course you can also see a
bizarre version of this very thing in "Tron" - remember Dillinger typing and
writing what amounts to command line directives on his multi-touch desk?

There was also a semi-shot at this in "Minority Report".

(I LOVE it when movies show so amazing piece of technology that's illogically
paired with some ancient piece of technology... like when we see hovering
robots pulling wheeled carts in "Star Wars".)

Apple's dipping their toe in (the iPhone will feature a multi-touch display)
but MS has definately looked to the long road here. I would expect to see at
least a few pop up in museums and other kiosk applications soon.

But I want one for home! I'd love to see this paired with a big-screen TV...
watch TV, then slide the unit down like a drafting table for surface fun and
games. Screw the Segway - it's stuff like this that will redesign our homes
and lives.
