Hmmm ... well the only time I really "moved" or "changed cities" I didn't
have a choice in the matter -- I had to take what KC offered ... BUT if it
were up to me:

Affordable housing
Vibrant arts and music community
Excellent hiking/biking trails and a good lake nearby to kayak
Warm climate WITHOUT humidity
Diverse population that's reflected in its restaurants, shopping, culture,
housing
Historical significance or interesting historical roots
Good university system
Liberal politics
Volunteer spirit and strong recycling/community development programs
Clean

I've always thought Austin, TX fit most of that, except maybe the low
humidity ... but if you've ever lived thru a St. Louis summer, most anything
else can be considered "low humidity"

Subject: What you're looking for in a place to live

Reading the where to move thread has been interesting. I like checking
out all the things that people look for in a place to live. I never
would have thought of "amusement park" as being a draw. So, what do
you look for in a place to live. Here's my partial (5 minutes of
thought) list, in no particular order:

Affordable & safe housing on public transportation routes
green spaces and lakes
can get "out of the city" within a reasonable time, preferably with
interesting other places to go
liberal-leaning residents
safe biking routes
good job market
multiple triathlon venues within a reasonable distance
diverse grocery-shopping options (including local food/food
coops/ethnic markets and such)
non-chain restaurants

At one point in my life, I would have said night life and culture.
But, I never go out anymore. But, I should probably add vibrant music
scene, cause otherwise I'd be living without my husband, which is not
so preferable.
