Ever since Win95 came out, I've never been a fan of windows. I liked OS/2, BeOS, Mac OS 8, and many flavors of linux and the plenitude of wm's for it. I think the major thing that killed me on windows was the registry. It's pure evil in my mind. When I uninstall a program, I know it's left little bits of itself inside the registry and probably other parts of the system and it bothers me. I always feel like windows is snappy only for the first 6 months or so, then the cruft gets to be too much and the system slows down. I really get irritated always having to run a resident virus scanner because most of the windows programs need to be run as an admin or at least a power user because they were originally done when windows wasn't multi-user (backward compatibility and all that). It boggles my mind that banks want to use windows on ATM machines (that seems like they're setting themselves up for something bad down the line). That said, the main reasons I've stuck with windows was for the gaming and video editing aspects of it. Well, I don't really game anymore (who has the time?) and Apple seems to have the upper hand on video editing, so I'm not really sure why I haven't switched.....aside from the fact that I've got all this win32 compatible hardware about.
I really should switch....
