I admit that I have ventured into less than desirable areas without
incident. Most recently when I lived in Dallas and I was lost. And yes, as
long as I did not look like a victim and pretty much kept my eyes forward
and did not stop unless I had to, I was OK. When I am by myself I am not
overly concerned. When I have my daughter with me though it is a different
thing. I am more scared for her than I am of me. I was just glad that I
could carry my gun in Texas. Alas that is no longer the case since I moved
back to the Left Coast.
I can carry my gun, just have to have the ammo where I cannot readily access
it, which pretty much makes carrying my gun a moot point. :P

In any event, I am probably being a little paranoid about this, but again
why take the chance? Better safe than sorry (said the man who will put his
name on the volunteer list for Iraq).

I think that if you there are area where your race may be an issue --
like Howard Beach for example -- you are better off knowing that, so
that you can be on your guard. I don't say this out of some sort of
fear -- I drove a taxi on the wrong side of Washington DC for years.
Ditto Jacksonville Florida, though that was only for a few months. And
I have never had a gas sation refuse to sell me gas.
