I'll third the "no back to the door" sentiment. Here, we have a row of
cubes, and I have the end one. I had my cube reconfigured so that mine
doesn't open up to the row. It opens up to the wall/windows. There are
about 2 people that actually walk between my cube and the wall, and
it's a rare occurrence that they do. Most people come from the row
side, and my work space is situation so that I can see the opening
where people "show up" without moving my head (at least being able to
see them peripherally).

We all have a "visitor" chair in our cubes, for impromptu meetings or
gab sessions. And, we have a tall filing cabinet with integrated
narrow "locker" for our coats. (Although I don't use my locker because
of the way I reconfigured. I put feng shui above locker potential,
essentially.

We have lights built into the undersides of our top-level cabinets,
which is really nice for when you have reading to do.

I also have 2 levels of workspace - a lower level for my 'puter
(adjusted for my keyboard needs) and a higher level for when I'm
reading/writing. Anything you can do to make the cubes customizable is
great, because you'll find that different people like different
things.
