Good point about nature. I was thinking about giving everyone a nice aquarium (professionally maintained) and a planter along the top edge of the low divider partition.

One remedy that I have for this issue is to get a mirror and put it on your monitor so that it shows the entry to your cube. If you cannot arrange your seating so that you can see the entry then this helps. Still it is unnerving if someone sneaks in and you did not catch them on the mirror (for instance you are so involved in writing code that you are not paying attention). I did have one boss who was good about announcing his entrance into my cube by calling my name and asking if I was there as he was walking up to me. Something else that I like is to have is plants or a rock or sand garden (obviously very small). Plants really do help though as it adds color to your cube. A friend of mine had a very large clear vase with rocks, underwater plants and a beta fish. Very cool idea. Sort of gives you a cube companion. What I am hating right now is that I am in an office that was originally designed for two folks (has two enclosed offices and large open space for whatever). They added a cube for a third guy, and since I am the newest person I have my desk sitting against a wall next to the doorway to my managers office, no walls at all. No one gets by me without me noticing, but I have ZERO privacy. Fortunately we are moving into new digs next July so I will have either an office or a cube at worst. I can't wait.
