eh. I rarely lock my door except at night, and I live in a
medium-sized city, even if it is in one of the "better" neighborhoods.
We have had a bicycle stolen from the front yard, but never anything
more serious.

We have one of those classic mailboxes and have not had any issues,
nor did we have any when we lived across town in a ::cough::
transitional neighborhood. Well, actually we did have mail issues and
I did get a PO box, but as far as I can tell the problems stemmed from
the fact that the landlord was still getting mail at our address and
used to frequently rummage through the box. The electric bill would
peiodically not appear and so forth, which was a hassle.

Mind you the PO box is a hassle too -- have to remember to go, have to
remember to pay for it, and if you aren't going daily you will windup
getting some mail later than you would like.

I think this is a case where you pick your poison.
