Well, I finally saw No End In Sight and I highly recommend it; especially for those of you that think by staying in Iraq we can "win".
http://noendinsightmovie.com/ The movie, via interviews with the actual people that fought, walked into, and led the Iraq occupation (e.g., Gen Jay Garner) describes the massive opportunity Bush had to be great; but how, via a series of horrible mistakes, he created a blood pit. The movie is basically the Cliff's Notes version of Fiasco. It's a must see if you support the war. Basically the movie lays out these key mistakes: (1.) Rummy, Wolfie, Feith, Cheney, etc planned for a "2-4 month occupation" with 100,000 troops totally ignoring the military experts like Shinseki who actually had military occupation experience. (2.) Bush appointed The Defense Dept, not State, to lead the occupation. This meant that all of State's experts were immediately shut out. (3.) After the initial invasion, the Americans didn't provide any security - which led to massive looting, which then led to complete lawlessness. Because there was no security Iraqis looked to neighborhood militias to protect them and, sadly, to their church which supported, of course, radical Islam. This lawlessness and the resulting militias formed the beginning of the insurgency; the average Iraqi started hating Americans because they had dismantled their country and left nothing in its place. Some of the security contractors randomly shot people. And filmed it. See the movie. That's gonna tick off your average Iraqi. (4.) Bremer. He made 3 massive errors the 2 biggest being "de-baathification" and disbanding the military. What little gov't infrastructure was left after #3 was destroyed with these moves as well as putting thousands of trained killers onto the streets with weapons and no job. And then the Americans couldn't protect the ammo dumps which the militias and newly jobless soldiers raided. (5.) The US shut out the Iraqis, the UN and its experts, the police and then barricaded themselves up behind a 12 foot wall otherwise known as "the green zone". But, watching the movie, you're struck by how close Bush came to being great. Had he done it right, he would be a hero. And he had the chance - for almost a year. But not being a leader himself he relied on the advice of others and they were arrogant buffoons. Now he's created country of militias who hate each other and America. For good reason. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| ColdFusion 8 - Build next generation apps today, with easy PDF and Ajax features - download now http://download.macromedia.com/pub/labs/coldfusion/cf8_beta_whatsnew_052907.pdf Archive: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/CF-Community/message.cfm/messageid:242474 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/CF-Community/subscribe.cfm Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=89.70.5
