Bullshit. It was an accident of location and timing you became an American. For
me its going to be a considerable amount of time, money and effort. When you
got your birth certificate, did you have to endure hours of standing in line
and waiting for an interview? That you had to go through a 2 hour interview to
prove that you were married to your wife? That you had to spend over $500 just
for the privilege of applying for a green card, that you might not get if some
bureaucrat had a bad ulcer flareup? Becoming a naturalized citizen costs almost
3 times as much, and you have to go through a lot more before you're even
considered for the privilege. I know people who had to sue ICE because of some
bureaucrat's incompetence in handling these people's applications.

I was asked to come here. A very good University decided that they needed my
participation in their graduate program. Then a research institution asked me
to stay on longer to help with developing their stuttering therapy program.
That program btw is still in operation, and is the most successful stuttering
therapy program available.

I chose to stay after that. There is a considerable difference than merely
being born at the right place and time. I had a choice. I chose to stay because
I think this country is worth my giving a damn about it. I will not become an
American citizen because of some accident of birth, time or location, but
because of my efforts and interests, time and money. I'd love to see how many
citizens by birth could go through the efforts that immigrants go through to
become naturalized citizens, who are still second class citizens, missing many
of the rights of natural born Americans.

So don't give me that holier than thou crap.
