It does seem larger at the horizon....it's an optical illusion that your
brain actually performs. The brain, when seeing an object on the horizon as
opposed to high up in the sky, assumes that the object should be closer and
actually enlarges the image when it interprets it.

I read about this a few years ago, and just found that fascinating. I
figured the illusion was caused by refracted light or something like
that....but apparently it all has to do with the brain.
