No! You have to manually go find the database and back it up, it's in your 
Application Settings or hidden away someplace like that. If it gets corrupted 
and you don't have an earlier backup, you are basically screwed. ACDSee (and 
most DAM software) have database backup capabilities built in.

Yes, non-destructive editing is something a lot of DAM programs have now, like 
Lightroom and Apeture. I know ACDSee Pro does non-destructive RAW processing, 
not sure what the consumer version does. I always save originals anyway so it's 
not something I tend to pay attention to much. There are disadvantages to using 
this feature as well, mainly due to the lack of any standard method of saving 
the changes.
