The majority of my stint in the public school system, sucked nuts.

The thing I walked away (or, out!) with was that it encouraged lameness.

Propped The System up- "You must take college courses to succeed"-
it matters not, what REALLY matters- what school is REALLY for.

Well-

/should/ really be for.

"The System" is not about making people succeed- or at least, it's
definition
of success is fucking screwed up.

The Machine wants more cogs. The teachers who actually try to teach
learning, are ground down by the Gears of Education.

I have the utmost respect for those that persevere.

*sign* I don't know. I'm at a point in life, just about, where I'm gonna
have to revisit the school situation, up close and personal.

I'm not sure if I'm feeling more Taggart-ish or Galt-ish.

The potential of a "non standard" education might outweigh the character
building aspect of a "standard" education. I think the real reason it's not
done more might be because it requires more work, and involvement, than
most people give toward "public school"- note, that if more folks had a
different attitude about the school system, things would be better.

It's amazing the difference between a PubSkool with Support (parent
involvement, and teachers supported by the admin, etc.) and one that's
sorta expected to magically do it alone[1].

I was lucky enough to experience a wide range of education from k-12,
and I learned a lot, but I don't pretend things aren't changing all the
time.

The arming of the security* sorta bothers me- hell, the fact that we need
security bothers me- (*new local deal) The System is in need of such FIERCE
REFORM- and yet it's so low on the list of priorities...

I think it's that Rich/Poor Effect (or Affect?) in action. Bottom line.

[1] obviously population plays into it- chicago poor ain't kentucky poor,
or; a class of 100 != a class of 3000 (might be sheer #s vs. even poverty)
