As with most civil service, this is below the private sector. But there are
good benefits if one gets into state service and stays. The top two for me are
100% employer covered health insurance once one has two years of state service
and a true pension based on one's salary and time in service when one retires.
One can enhance the pension with 401k investment.

Currently there are negotiations to simplify the 13 overlapping Information
Technology Classifications into 4 consolidated classifications. This
negotiation includes a salary bump to bring the salary ranges more inline with
the current private sector. This is scheduled to take effect at the start of
the next fiscal year, July 2008.
