Well, my Optiplex GX60 finally died. It had been in our living room on the coffee table for a while, but we moved it up to the office a few months ago where it never even got plugged in. I brought it back down to the TV room a few days ago and hooked it up to the LCD TV (which has a VGA input on it) and found a Drive 0 Seek Failure .. but it booted up. After installing updates and such I rebooted, and now the thing won't boot at all. And 30 minutes later, it won't even send a signal to the VGA output. It powers on but nothing else.
It was a good little computer. The GX60 was nice because it was virtually silent. You couldn't even really hear any noise from the fan. I just ordered a new Inspiron 531s desktop for the same purpose - to go in the TV room for Emily (my 5 year old daughter) to play games on, and for web surfing and such. I'm hoping that the 531s is "quiet" like the GX60 was.. most Dell computers that I've found have been pretty quiet running. I got mine with 2 gig of RAM (@800mhz) and an Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4000+. processor. Went with the integrated nVideo GeForce SE 6150 video, and the bluetooth wireless media hub... I'll eventually buy a bluetooth keyboard and mouse probably but for now I've got a logitech USB wireless keyboard and mouse for it. I'm PROBABLY going to wipe the OS clean and install XP on it... I don't know if I'm ready to "make the jump" to Vista. Although this won't be my main computer, so I won't be doing any kind of development on it or anything, so it might not be too bad to go with vista basic. At any rate, I seriously hope it's quiet. =) My wife hates my desktop, a custom built PC, because it's noisy. That early 3ghz dual core pentium runs super hot and the fans are noisy! -- Rick Root Check out CFMBB, BlogCFM, ImageCFC, ImapCFC, CFFM, and more at www.opensourcecf.com ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Create robust enterprise, web RIAs.
