Scott - I had delusions of grandeur of doing this very thing last year about
this time when I got sick of my old job. When I thought about it more, and
talked to a few people who started their own businesses, it sounded like
there is a lot of work that is not my forte (business-type work, not coding)
and I ended up taking a corp job instead.

It would be cool if you could blog your progress along the way, if you
decide to go this route. That is considering you have time to do that after
hustling work, keeping up with taxes, billing, accounting, customer
relations, etc. Oh, yea, don't forget that coding thing. :) From what I
hear, taking on your own business is not for the faint of heart - lots of
hours to be put into it!
