My coworker is moving into a new house and is finally replacing his
aging projection TV. He went to best buy last night and ended up
buying a $3200.00 samsung hdtv 1080p 120hz lcd, an $80 4ft hdmi cable,
and a $150 power conditioner/surge protector.

Before he went, he asked me what he should look for in a TV. I told
him to choose the TV with the picture he liked the best and don't pay
attention to the price tags. He pretty much did the opposite :) He
got talked into the samsung by the sales guy. I asked him what the
120hz did for him. His reply, "I don't know, but it's what's coming
in the future". I asked him if he knew the difference between 1080i
and 1080p. He said, "No, but the sales guy said that 1080p blew 1080i
out of the water". I asked him if he knew what the power conditioner
did and he said, "No, but the sales guy said that I really needed it."
He also asked me if he should pay $300 for a guy to come out to his
house and do a color calibration. I just shook my head in disbelief.

It's amazing how gullible people can be. Of course, this is the same
guy who didn't want one of the new dell optiplex machines (the smaller
14x14x4 ones) because it was smaller than the tower underneath his
desk so it probably wasn't as fast.
