I had the opportunity to buy a house on the lake, but backed out when I found out the land it sat on was leased land, not land I would "own". Just the thought sent a shiver up my spine. Although home owners in New London, CT found out how much land ownership really means when the rich and powerful want your land. Nada. Thank you, Supreme Court. And, since then, I bought a trailer and camp lot in a condo-campground, shared ownership with 125 other people. So I guess priorities and imperatives change over time.
