No, not anymore than any other scientific explanation for what occurs in nature 
is about negating a deity. We don't need an alternate theory for weather 
patterns, or gravity, or earthquakes, or mountains, or any myriad of natural 
phenomenon that ancient cultures attributed to god(s). Nor do people feel the 
need to come up with some pseudo-scientific explanations for these or else feel 
their religion is threatened by them....they accept that these occur naturally 
and that just because they do, does not mean God does not still play some role 
in our lives that is beyond our understanding and perception. Why should 
natural evolution of species be any different?
