I doubt he would have anyway.

I had a teacher use an embarrassing public punishment for me back when I was
in 8th grade. Granted I was much younger than 19 and more unsure of myself
at that age, but it was absolutely devastating to me...and that feeling
lasted for a LONG time afterwards. Even at 19, you are still trying to find
yourself and can be unsure around your friends etc....I just think it might
go beyond punishment to threaten a young person's growing sense of self
confidence.

I guess it's all a matter of opinion.
