As someone who spent nearly 13 years criss-crossing the U.S. engineering and
building those fiber optic networks, I can agree with that assessment
completely.  At one time or another, every major cable company (and most
mom-and-pops) were clients of mine, and that's the _only_ thing that this is
about for them.  But if consumers let them get away with it, it will
effectively shut down any real chance of us "little guys" competing with big
business on the WWW.  What glimpses of "a level playing field" will be long
gone.
