The Brown Recluse spider is a problem at Fort Puke, er Polk. Like the name
implies it likes abandoned places, like all of the old WWII barracks that
the National Guard and visiting troops use. I have a few friends who have
been bitten. One realized that he was bitten and got the medical assistance
but still lost about 2 cubic inches of muscle. The others were even worse.

On a different spider note, I spent some time in the Mojave desert about 15
years ago. To win beers I would go out to a rifle range and shoot the
tarantulas and scorpions as they came out to feed at sunset with a 22 rifle.
After I and 2 coworkers were bitten by tarantulas I had no more simpathy for
them.
