I think the point, was that most people on both sides of the segregation 
line, i.e. the 'Whites' and the 'Coloreds' professed to be largely 
Christian.  It can be argued that segregation and racism is 
un-Christian, but it can not be said that the segregation that happened 
in the U.S. in the first half of the 20th century was Christian versus 
non-Christian.  It was some Christians being racist to other Christians 
who happened to have different skin colors.
