I really _want_ to believe him. He is either a standup guy who is in a terrible spot, or lying his (abscessed) butt off.
If he is lying: is he doing it because he is just a liar at heart, or is he trapped by a lie and stuck now, or is he protecting his "legacy"? And if he is lying, he is doing it really, really well. Still too close to call for me.
