Wow. Toshiba throws in the towel. That's...huge. Sony may have lost with Betamax, but they've won big time with Blu Ray format.
A lot of early adopters of HD-DVD drives now have bricks on their hands though, land fills will be filling up! http://blog.islandgamers.com/?p=317 "It's official. Toshiba is throwing in the towel in the High Definition format battle. They're partying well into the morning at Sony Headquarters, and no doubt champagne a-plenty is flowing. PS3 owners will feel vindicated that their money was well spent on the console choice that affords them 'free' access to the next HD format, whilst Xbox 360 HD-DVD drive owners may be heading quickly to E-Bay to try to catch a few suckers. When Time Warner decided to support Blu-Ray exclusively, and recently with NetFlix stating that it would not carry HD-DVDs , followed by Wal-Mart analysts surmised that it would be a difficult road ahead for the format if the HD-DVD consortium could not find some way to win back studios. Supported by Microsoft, Toshiba and several others, HD-DVD format had a great run, at one point even appearing to be on top of Blu Ray in terms of studio support and market penetration. However, this race clearly was not for the swiftest, and the mighty juggernaut of Sony, coupled with the slow creep of PS3 (Effectively 'cheap' Blu-Ray players that can also play games) has prevailed." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Adobe® ColdFusion® 8 software 8 is the most important and dramatic release to date Get the Free Trial http://ad.doubleclick.net/clk;160198600;22374440;w Archive: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/CF-Community/message.cfm/messageid:254334 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/CF-Community/subscribe.cfm Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=11502.10531.5
