I worked at a large Burger King in the mid-80s that used completely computerized cash registers, and the durn thing had crashed.
I had to run up and down 8 registers, calculating totals (and change) because no one else behind the registers could. After about two hours, I went into the office, did a hard reset on the computer, read the screen errors, PLUGGED IN THE KEYBOARD, and went back to handling the fries and specialty board. Of course I was severly reprimanded for "messing with" the computer. (sniff. I miss the simplicity. And my father's mocking voice at dinner "d'ya want fries with that burger?") They did estimated gross sales by the number of buns and burgers used, and hand-counted the waste from a bucket behind the front line. We have come so far... This makes me wonder... 1) Why these people can't use a calculator, or lord forbid, simple freaking preschool mathematics to figure out our total? I understand if they need to track the orders, but it's noon - the busiest time of the year. Deal with it. 2) What kind of computers are they using that would take that long to reboot and start up? Heck, even Win95 on a slow system would be up and running in 4 minutes at most. Am I crazy... or was I just being cranky because I was hungry?? -rc ______________________________________________________________________ Get the mailserver that powers this list at http://www.coolfusion.com Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/index.cfm?sidebar=lists
