My (9-year-old) son caught the fever and pre-ordered it, then asked with the puppy-dog eyes if I'd go down at Midnight and pick it up. So I did...
I've been to plenty of midnight launches in my misspent youth, but this one caught me off guard. I'd never actually played any of the games and just didn't think that they were THAT popular. Even in my small town there were upwards of 150 people standing in line waiting. The temperature was well below freezing and snow squalls pushed by high winds were sweeping through, but there we all were. I wasn't the only one concerned about the fact the game has a horribly broken online system... there were conversations running up and down the line about how you could use your PS3 or XBox to set up a chat and then switch over the Wii to play SSB and still actually communicate with your friends. Nintendo just doesn't "get" online at all. Not even a little bit. Gotta hand it to them, tho'... they keep their fan base very happy. My son's playing it now and lovin' it.
