Wow, have you all seen these videos from Ayaan Hirsi Ali on Islam and the
West?

Amazing stuff. Two things I noted in particular. Gruss, you'll love this
first one. She says it was a mistake for the US to declare a War on Terror.
But why? In her words, "terror is just a tactic". And then, and Mike you've
been saying this all along I think, she goes on to say that the problem is
not any particular sect or belief but Islam itself that is the problem and
that needs to be changed. Her thesis is very thoughtful and deserves
attention.

Her argument is that Islam is still catching up to Western civilization
since the 10th-11th centuries, when Europeans started to travel the world
and learn from other societies. Europeans learned the value of studying and
copying ideas from others. while Islam believed that all answers lay in the
Koran, and the Arab Islamic Empire turned away from the outside world. The
Islamic world still believes in the primacy of the Koran, and as a result
people like President Ahmedinejad of Iran are fanatics who welcome death,
who will not be dissuaded by sanctions, and who will acquire nuclear weapons
and use them against Israel without a second thought.

Her message? If you are a Westerner, ask yourself this question, are you
prepared to die for your civilization? Because those are the stakes, and the
people on the other side are prepared to die. She also gives America credit
for making the very courageous decision to recognize and react swiftly to
the danger of Islamic militancy while the Europeans have been unable or
unwilling to recognize the threat that could destroy our common
civilization.

Scary stuff, and this is coming from a woman who moved to the United States
under threat of death from Islamists in the Netherlands because of her
public statements about Islam.
