The Army has been undergoing a program called Grow the Force. Basically they are adding several BCT's by 2010 so that they can meet the demands of the current conflicts, and have enough troops to participate in another if that should ever happen. And yes, there is time to train them. Basic training is 9-10 weeks long, infantry schools a few more weeks beyond that, and armor and scout school a few week beyond basic as well. In less than 6 months you can have a sizable force trained. We have several basic training camps to accommodate thousands of new trainees. And this falls into a theory that I have. I have always said that we need to do like most other countries do. Have compulsory military service for 2-3 years for all American's when they hit 18. No college deferments or anything like that. I am very confident that there are many men and women in the US that have no idea that they would enjoy the military and end up making a career out of it. The military would never be hurting for troops.
