I was informed today that I will be participating in the interview process for my position. Since I know many of you on this list have conducted interviews, can you all share with me some questions that I need to ask? I can come up with technical questions but I want to be sure that the candidates actually know what they are talking about and did not just read a few docs on CF prior to the interview. Also, there is a good chance that we are not going to be able to find a CF developer in this area (out of 12 candidates, I was the only one that knew CF and SQL Server when I interviewed). However, we may find some .NET, ASP or PHP developers. If that is the case, are there some general developer questions that I can use just to see if they know what they are talking about? And finally, assuming that we can only find FrontPage quality applicants, are there some questions that I can ask to see if they at least possess the aptitude to learn CF? Fortunately I did the District site as a CMS and it is pretty solid, and I only have one more app (help desk) that I need to write before I leave on May 30th, so they will only be doing the day to day maintenance for the users until they can learn CF.
