I haven't used traveler's checks since the 80's. Get her a Visa card if you trust her not to charge you too far into debt. From most Visa providers, you can get a PIN to be able to use the card to do cash withdrawls at ATMs. Up to you whether you want her pulling cash advances off the credit card. Definitely get her an ATM card. BofA cards are part of the Plus, Interlink, and Star ATM networks - that covers major European bank ATMs as well, not sure about southern France specifically.
