I was fortunate that they had auto shop when I was in HS. This enabled
me to save thousands over the years. Two vehicles I had in the past
needed the engines rebuilt, which I was able to do on my own. I have not
taken a vehicle into a shop my entire adult life unless it was warranty
or recall work, which is free. It is a shame now that a lot of school
districts are getting rid of all the vocational education classes like
metal shop, wood shop, welding, electronics. Not everyone is going to be
a teacher, doctor, lawyer, programmer or whatever. We will always need
the blue collar worker and there is nothing wrong with that. My
step-father is a shop foreman for a heavy truck shop and makes a damn
good living at it. Sometimes I envy him.
