Self-sufficient is where it's at.
The cars are a little harder these days... need a laptop and gizmos,
whereas that used to be just for high end stuff...
Nothing like the feeling of doing it yourself, at least once. Even if
the first time is the hardest.
I remember this one time, I dropped the tranny in my Mark IV Lincoln
during a high-speed chase-- putting a new one (well, not really new--
I loves me junk yards;]) in was a total bitch but man was it a
learning experience.
Stupid design choices and everything (a half-inch more on the crossbar
support and you wouldn't need a cherry picker to pull the
transmission-- I used a hacksaw and a big wrench instead, of
course)... they teach you good designs or something like that.
