Actually, I'd argue that it was the hired guns that put us "over the edge."
70% of the offense came from Mags, Guillen, Polanco, and Casey, and you
can't argue the kind of effect a hall of fame catcher like Rodriguez has on
the pitching staff.

Sure he's a gamer.  But he's a crappy hitter.  He had a career year in 2004
and certainly earned his spot (the team was awful in 04 and not very good in
05 either).  And sure he knocked out 27 homers and 83 RBIs in '06 while
batting a paltry .253... but his production dropped "back to normal" in '07
batting .236 with 14 homers and 71 RBI.

He is a gamer and a solid defender, he can play just about any position, but
I just don't think you can bat .240 and play every day.
