the conversation the other day got me to wondering how long it would be before I broke even on the prius. When I traded in my truck, I still owed 18 more months at $500.
For the calculation, I decided to make things easier and just assume that I owned the truck. Constants: 30,000 miles a year on vehicle Diesel: currently 4.59/gal Gas: currently 3.59/gal Truck: 30000/20 mpg = 1500gal * 4.59 gal = $6750.00 Prius: 30000/55 mpg = 545gal * 3.59 gal = 1988.86 + (350 * 12 months) = $6188.86 That blows me away that it's cheaper for me to have the prius now!
