Now do the calculation with what you owe on the truck and see whether or
not you come out ahead.
For me, even if I owned my truck outright, I could not trade it in for a
car. The reason is simply that I use my truck for it's intended purpose.
I have a slide-in camper that will be upgraded to a pull trailer in a
year or so and a car cannot pull this.
Now, if I were still commuting to LA, then I could see getting something
like this as my commuter car. I could realize a pretty good savings over
time with an economy car as opposed to my truck. But fortunately since I
am going back into the Army in 13 days and I will be living on post, I
will not have to worry about fuel prices anyway. The plan is to ride my
bike back and forth to work and only use the truck when I need to.
But overall, with prices of gas and fuel the way they are, it makes
perfect sense to get an economy vehicle if you commute.
