Hi Adam,

You can relax a bit. You're not an old fart until you get to TRIfocals. You're
still just a kid with BIfocals. :)

If you spend a lot of time in front of the screen these days you may want to
spring for a pair of dedicated computer glasses. The upper half of the lenses
will be optimized for the screen and you should be able to see the screen and
the keyboard without moving your head at all. Makes a huge difference for me,
although I wear progressives (trifocals).

Just wait till you get to trifocals\progressives. The viewing area is shaped
like a big maple tree with distance as the big leafy top of the tree, middle
vision being the narrow trunk of the tree and close up being the wide but
shallow root system of the tree. Close up gets interesting. If you do not have
Varilux progressives, which are expensive and not available at all optical
shops, close up is limited on each lens to the area between the bottom center
and your nose. You have to move your head side to side when reading close up
otherwise on the left side of a line your left eye cannot focus and on the
right side of the line your right eye cannot focus. I found this out the hard
way from a knowledgeable optician after having redone two prescriptions a total
of five times . . . I'm back to Varilux again.

Good luck with your new glasses . . .

George
