I wouldn't think that it would be (or should be) a big deal.  That
being said, I think it's best to err on the side of caution.  Not a
big deal to take the earring out.

After working for them for a bit, and them knowing what you're capable
of, I'd worry less about it.  Let your first impression be based on
the quality of work that you do.  Then the earring, if it even would
have been an issue, would likely be less of an issue (or a non-issue).

You never get a second chance to make a first impression, and all that.
