I live at the other end of CT (near the RI border), and make that drive a
couple times a year.

We _always_ take the GWP up to the Tappan Zee Bridge (87/287), then follow
it down to the Merritt Pkwy (15), to Rt 95 in Milford, then 95 north to
Providence.

The drive is a touch longer, but faster, and much, much nicer. Both in
scenery, fellow drivers, stop and go traffic, construction, and road
conditions.

(we sometimes go tappanzee to 84 to 2 to 395 to 6, but that is a little more
complicated, and more for the scenery change than anything.)

As you near Providence, make sure you notice the big blue bug on a roof on
the left, as made famous by "Dumb and Dumber".

I would give yourself even an extra half-hour, because that is rush hour.
Most days are a little slow, but enough accidents and slowdowns to add some
unexpected time.

Speed traps in New London on both sides of the bridge all summer, so slow
down, and usually one just past exit 88 in Mystic, or just before the 92
exit for North Stonington on the uphill slope.

Gas in CT is the highest in the nation, so bring your own, or get it in RI.

Here is a map with places mentioned above, and me.
