I was listening to a podcast just recently, RIA Weekly, where there was a guy talking about creating RIA's in ajax and html vs flash because the user was already used to their browser and the way it looked and behaved. He said a select box looks like your own platforms' select box...unlike flash were the select box, while looking the same across platforms, wouldn't look like the platform's native select box. He also likened flash vs html/ajax to the pos terminals where the green screens were replaced by windowed apps and how it slowed the cashiers down even though no one would argue that the green screens were not an intuitive interface.
It validated a lot of what I had been thinking regarding my foray into flex apps. I liked them, but the ajax ones always seemed a little more "familiar" looking to me.
