I think we need to take these cases one at a time. The article says that he's the son of an alleged Al-Queda financier, and a Canadian citizen. They never state that he was or wasn't on the battlefield. If a sixteen year old want's to man up and fight so be it, but he needs to understand the consequences of his actions, including being captured by the "enemy".
I think we should've stuck to the Geneva Conventions, not for their sake but for our own, by taking the moral high ground. We could've garnered more international support for the mess in Iraq.
