Just as extraordinarily long pauses when answering a question brews distrust with me. I don't care about his 1-1 conversations. They are usually prepped anyway. I am talking about when the press asks questions that he is not prompted for. I understand the concept of choosing your words wisely, but there is a reasonable amount of pause that is acceptable before you start looking like someone who is choosing his words so carefully you just come off as dishonest. Not saying that there are any honest politicians, but you don't have to make it look obvious.
