There are clear distinctions between the US-led invasion of Iraq (supported by UN resolutions and lots of countries besides the US) and the Russian invasion of Georgia, such as it is, but clearly this is an area of political vulnerability that Putin and his cronies are trying to exploit. The question is why you are buying into it.
