Not the same thing, not even close to the same thing. Georgia is
acting inside its own internationally recognized borders, and Russia
just up and invaded, by itself, without going to the UN, without
consulting other nations, without making an international case for
intervention. Was there a case for intervening? I think there was a
good case, but that's not really the issue. The Russians didn't bother
to make a case to anyone, even their own allies, they just up and
invaded.

He needed to say something, but what he should have said was something
about process, e.g. going to the UN to make a case for intervention,
etc. Instead he did the cowboy thing, and that just isn't going to
play internationally.
