Sam, I'm not sure what education level you've achieved, but I'll break
it down for you. In the above sentence, 'them' is a pronoun. The
tricky thing with pronouns is that you've got to read them in context
(that's the sentences surrounding it) to know exactly what the pronoun
refers to. Now, in this sentence above, it's referring to old school
republicans who believe in a certain economic philosophy; not the
whole country.

 From Time.com:

S. Ann Dunham Soetoro
When her son was almost 2, Ann returned to college. Money was tight.
She collected food stamps and relied on her parents to help take care
of young Barack.........

sorry, my faux pax...he wants to provide every child a world-class
education. I personally know of one school right by me that does not.

I don't know if we have that right now....I know my state colleges
around here have raised their tuition quite a bit. I used to be able
to pay for my own college with a part time job in 88. By, 92, the
tuition had gone up enough that I had to get loans.

come outside the box sam.....don't you think that they could specify
what the money could be used for? Couldn't some of it be forced to be
allocated to teacher salaries?
